Building Permit Guide
The purpose of this guide is to help homeowners/builders prepare for all requirements needed to start construction projects in Boyle County.
Building permits are required for:
-
Single-family Dwellings (SFD)
-
Additions to SFD’s
-
Multi-family Dwellings
-
Commercial Buildings
-
Decks and Porches
-
Storage Buildings over 120 sq. ft.
-
Attached Garages
-
Structural Renovations
-
In-ground Pools
-
Demolition
Exempt (No permit required):
-
Farm Dwellings (on 10+ acres)
-
Farm Buildings (Barns, Storage, etc.)
-
Detached Garages
-
Storage Buildings under 120 sq.ft.

Decks below 30” from finished grade
-
Non structural renovations or repairs
-
Above-ground pools

Sidewalks

Manufactured Homes require a building permit from the local office. Manufactured homes are regulated by Kentucky Department of Housing, Buildings, and Construction.
Boyle Co. building permit requirements are in accordance with KRS 198B.060(10) and Boyle County Ordinance 340.3.
Applicant/Agent must supply the following items to the building inspector’s office:

Planning and Zoning permit

Proof of contractor’s license
-
Contractor’s proof of liability insurance in the amount of not less than $350,000
-
Proof of Worker’s Compensation Insurance for work crew
-
Contractor’s Occupational License (Contractor’s information will be kept on file for all subsequent projects)

Blueprints or detailed plan designs.
The building permit fees will cover the following inspections:
Footing Inspection
This inspection will be made whenteh footer has been prepared for concrete with the steel tied in place.
Framing Inspection
This inspection will be made when the rough-in wiring and plumbing have been inspected, but before gypsum drywall is installed. HVAC system should also be in place.
Final Inspection
This inspection will be made when all work has been completed and the project is ready for occupancy.
It is the responsibility of the applicant/agent to notify the building inspector’s office as required inspections are needed.
When possible, allow for at least one day for the inspection to be made.
Certificate of Occupancy
A Certificate of Occupancy must be approved and issued before moving into a completed building.
